What is an ATS?
An ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is software employers use to receive, sort and search applications. Most large employers use one.
The problem: The software often reads your resume before a recruiter sees it. If it reads it wrong, for example because of columns or tables, your experience and skills don't come through. Not because you aren't qualified, but because of how your resume is built.
What Resumate checks in your resume
Six checks, each with the number of points an issue costs you.
Text length and content: We check whether your resume has enough content. A strong resume has at least 150 to 300 words.
Contact details: A recruiter has to be able to reach you. We check that your email address and phone number are there.
Section headings: The software looks for standard headings like Work Experience, Education and Skills. A heading of your own is often not recognised.
Formatting issues: Columns, tables and special characters can confuse the software. We find them for you.
Action verbs and results: Lines that start with a verb and name a measurable result read stronger. We check whether you have them.
Skills and keywords: The software searches for skills from the job posting. We check that you list at least 5 to 8.
How do we calculate your score?
We start with 100 points and deduct points for each issue.
Needs improvement: This is where you have the most to gain. Start with the biggest deductions.
Good: The basics are in place. A few changes get more out of your resume.
Excellent: The software can read your resume well. Now it's mostly about the content.
